● How many schools does Sendagaya Group have? What are the characteristics of each school?

A. There are 3 schools. All of them are located in Tokyo metropolitan area.   
Main characteristics:
・Sendagaya Japanese College (Preparatory Education Course): University & Vocational School Preparatory Course
・Sendagaya Japanese Institute: Graduate School Preparatory Course
・Sendagaya Language School: from daily conversation to business Japanese

What is the course period for each school?

A. ・Sendagaya Japanese College: 2 years maximum (April intake), 1 year and 6 months (October intake)
・Sendagaya Japanese Institute: 2 years maximum (April intake), 1 year and 9 months (July intake), 1 year and 6 months (October intake), 1 year and 3 months (January intake)
・Sendagaya Language School: 2 years maximum (April intake), 1 year and 9 months (July intake), 1 year and 6 months (October intake)

If the student is admitted to a higher education institution or finds a job, they can also complete the course in the middle of the program.

What countries or regions students are from?

A. Students from several countries and regions study in our school. For example, China, Vietnam, South Korea, Thailand, Taiwan, Russia, Hong Kong, Malaysia, Saudi Arabia, Ukraine, United States of America, Germany, France, Qatar, Kyrgyzstan, Sudan, Singapore, Brazil, Macao, etc.

Are there any Japanese-level restrictions for getting admitted to your institution?

A. In principle, there are no restrictions, but we recommend beginners to enroll at the starting date of each course. On the other hand, the applicant is required to have learned more than 150 hours of Japanese language in order to apply for the student visa. For those with less than 150 hours learned, please consult with us. We will check your Japanese language skills and eagerness to enroll through interviews and other means.

Does the school have a scholarship system?

A. Yes. We have several types of scholarships, subsidies and emergency benefits accomplished by many students, such as the Monbukagakusho Honors Scholarship for Privately-Financed International Students, Semmoto Foundation Scholarship, Takayama Scholarship, Lee Soo Hyun Memorial Scholarship.

What kind of teachers are there?

A. All of our teachers are professionals who studied Japanese language education theoretically and practically at our Japanese Language Teacher’s Training Program (https://www.jp-sji.org/jp/) or Universities. They conduct fun and easy-to-understand classes.

How are the class levels decided?

A. We check the students’ Japanese language skills through placement tests, interviews, etc. Then, the class level is decided according to the results. There are 9 levels in total, from elementary to advanced.

Who should I talk to if I have any concerns?

A. You can talk to the teacher if you have any questions about your studies or higher education advancement. On the other hand, if you have questions about daily life or visa, then you can talk to the Student Office staff instead. Our Student Office staff can speak multiple languages, such as English, Chinese, Vietnamese, etc. Feel free to consult with us.

Job Hunting/Non-Higher Education Related

I do not have any plans to go to higher education. I want to study and then work in Japan. Which school should I choose?

A. For those planning on working in Japan after graduating from the Japanese language school, we recommend Sendagaya Language School.

Dormitory

After applying for the dormitory, when can I move in?

A. You can move in at the beginning of the month when school will start (except if it falls on a weekend or national Holiday).

Can I choose the nationality of my roommate?

A. We try to arrange according to the student’s requirements as much as possible, however, there is always the possibility that we might not be able to answer all requests.

Can my friends or family members who are also studying in Sendagaya, stay in the same room or dormitory?

A. We try to arrange according to the student’s requirements as much as possible, however, there is always the possibility that we might not be able to answer all requests.

Tuition and Dormitory Payment Method

Can I pay by credit card or electronic/digital money?

A. At the moment, it is not possible. Please pay by international remittance or bank transfer.
