What you can learn in this course

Techniques and practical skills for writing logically

Students will learn “logical writing skills” necessary for essays required in graduate school entrance examinations, report writing after entering graduate school, and master’s thesis writing. In addition, students will acquire the ability to polish and self-revise through repeated writing practice within a limited time and a specified number of words.

Techniques and practical skills for logical oral expression

Students will learn how to make presentations or have discussions in Japanese required at the graduate level. Students will acquire the Japanese language skills to give basic presentations and respond flexibly to questions and answers with consideration for others. The goal is also to be able to discuss issues with Japanese people on an equal footing.

Cross-cultural understanding – Ability to live in Japanese society

Now that multicultural coexistence is required, students will learn to take a variety of perspectives so that they can also learn to appreciate different values. They will improve their Japanese language skills by making full use of honorifics and other language expressions appropriate to the occasion, with an eye to their post-graduate life and future employment with Japanese companies. Students will also deepen their understanding of the Japanese way of looking at things and thinking, and acquire the ability to live smoothly in Japan.

Class Introduction

Students will comprehensively acquire basic Japanese language skills (grammar, vocabulary, writing, reading, speaking, and listening) as well as the ability to carry out assignments in Japanese. In particular, students will acquire the ability to communicate in formal situations as an adult, advanced Japanese language skills that even Japanese students can acquire through hard work, and Japanese language skills that can be used after entering graduate school.


Beginner Level: Preparing for Graduate School

Japanese

Students will acquire basic Japanese language skills in preparation for entering graduate school, and through “composition” and “activity” classes, develop the ability to express “ideas” required in graduate school.

Research Program

Students will think about their research problem in preparation for writing a research proposal.

Pronunciation

The course will focus on pronunciation which is important for oral examinations for graduate school entrance exams and presentations at graduate schools.

Intermediate Level: Preparation for Graduate School Entrance Examinations

Japanese

Through classes such as “Grammar,” “Conversation,” “Reading Comprehension,” and “Essay,” students will develop their writing, oral expression, reading comprehension (essays, editorials, etc.), and the ability to express “thoughts” required in graduate school.

JLPT・EJU

Students will do exercises to get a higher score on the Japanese examinations

Pronunciation

Students will practice pronunciation which is important for oral examinations of graduate school entrance exams or presentations at graduate schools.

Research Program

Students will deepen their “thoughts” on various aspects of what they want to research in graduate school and create a research plan.

Advanced Level Finishing preparation for graduate school exams & necessary skills for research life

Japanese

Through “oral presentations,” “discussions,” “essays,” and “seminar-type classes,” students will acquire the ability in Japanese expressions necessary for graduate school classes.

Research Program

The contents of research plans will be deepened for oral examinations of entrance examinations and research in graduate school.

Pronunciation

Students will practice pronunciation which is important for presentations and discussions in graduate school.

University degree (bachelor’s degree) or higher (*Some graduate schools allow applicants without a degree to take the exam if they are approved in a pre-qualification screening)

Proficiency in Japanese(N1 or above)

Ability to write logically, explain orally about a specialized field, read editorials, listen to lectures.

Skills to prepare for graduate school
